Speaker 1:

Welcome to Walk the Walk. This message is inspired by the message that I heard yesterday at our church. What kind of food are you eating? Now, you may think that's an odd question, and it really is meant to be to catch your attention. What kind of food are you eating? Are you still eating baby food, the smooth, pure baby food that takes no effort to eat and easily swallowed? Or have you advanced yourself to steak and potatoes? I'm going to adventure to say that if you're listening to this podcast, you are eating steak and potatoes. You're not going to eat a lot of food, and I don't mean that quite literally. So if you're like, no, I never eat meat or whatever, that's not what the intent is In your studies and your relationship with Jesus.

Speaker 1:

Are you still drinking milk, eating smooth, baby food, nothing that takes any effort, or have you advanced yourself in your studies to the meat and potatoes of the word? What does that mean? Well, that means when we are born, we all have milk of some type. We can't eat anything more than milk. We have no teeth to chew with. We don't even have the means or the capability I don't think to even know how to chew a piece of meat or a potato as an infant, but it nourishes you as a baby. Your milk nourishes you and you grow Eventually. That milk doesn't help you grow any longer. In other words, if you're I don't remember how old it was when I took my children off solely milk, but they were young and eventually we're eating baby food out of a jar and then eventually we started in on whole foods carrots or whatever like that. They were young and it was a learning process and we also learned about what foods they could eat and what they could need the whole process of being a mother or a father.

Speaker 1:

Jesus says I need you to quit drinking milk. It is time for you to advance to the meat and potatoes of my word. We all and I've said this many a time if you're reading God's Bible, that's all great, but at some point in your walk with Jesus, you have to start eating the meat and potatoes. In other words, what does this mean? Do you want me to know Jesus? When I first started reading my Bible as I've said before, I read my Bible I gave it a good 15 minute, go and shut the book and like, yes, good for me, I'm done. I did what most people don't do. I read my Bible, but now Jesus has said to me that's not enough anymore. You're not being fed the way that I need you to be fed. You're not fulfilling your hunger. What? Yeah, you should have a desire, as you go on in your Christian walk, to want to eat more, to want to learn more, to want to understand more what it is that Jesus wants you to learn. And I say that with what Jesus wants you to learn, because there's no, no, I'm not going to say no way because maybe somebody has, but for me, I take the Bible, meat and potatoes, one day at a time. There are some days where I will eat the meat, but it's really hard to swallow, like I don't get this. I don't even know if I want to get this this. This sounds brutal or this sounds not so loving. This doesn't sound like what my God would do, but the truth is is if it's in the Bible, it is the truth.

Speaker 1:

Right now we're reading the book of Job. Actually, we're almost finished with it and I not going to lie to say I'm not glad because I am, but I will say this that I've been reading the book of Job for several years and I feel like this year, I'm not so bothered by the meat and potatoes of it. I'm not so worried that I don't understand everything about it, and I am able now to look at the book of Job and say I think what God is saying about the book of Job is I am God and you are not. I don't expect you to understand all of this, and that's exactly what I think the book of Job is saying. I don't expect you to understand what is happening to Job and his family. I don't expect you to understand what's happening to another person.

Speaker 1:

And I think the other part of the book of Job is is that Job has friends who are his counsel, who come to him and tell him what he must be doing wrong, and all of them have this so-called great wisdom. Personally, I think they are trying to say to Job what did you do so we don't do it? Because you are probably one of the most upright people we know, and if God is punishing you, please tell us what it is. You did so that we don't do it? Because we're not even as righteous as you are. That's my take on it. Whether that's correct or not Does it make a difference? Because in the end of Job, god finally says to him you know what I'm, god? You didn't make this earth. You didn't create people. You have no idea what you even talk about, but God does.

Speaker 1:

That is what I would consider meat and potatoes, not just read through Job, shut the book and say I don't get it, I'm not even going to try to get it. It doesn't make any sense to me, it doesn't make total sense. But there are some lessons. So if, as you read each book of the Bible where you may say and I say it probably with every book of the Bible I didn't get all that, but here's what I did get, and next year I'll take what I did get, those meat and potatoes, and next year I'll have even better meat and potatoes and I'll understand it a little bit more. That's what God, I think, intends for us to learn as we read our Bible, so that we too can share our meat and potatoes with somebody else, so that we can share our learning tools with other people and they can share with us as well. That's what I'm talking about the meat and potatoes of who, or the meat and potatoes that we get fed from Jesus. Someday I get dessert when I have that aha moment. Yes, well, how did I overlook that? Well, you didn't overlook it, I didn't overlook it. It's what God made us see, and sometimes he doesn't let us have that dessert, but when he does, I give him thanks and thank him for allowing me to see the dessert of his word.

Speaker 1:

If you are the person that's still at the milk level up your game, it's time to start eating a little bit of meat and potatoes. If you're just starting out I mean just starting out never read your Bible before. Stay where you are until you feel like, okay, it's time for me to advance, but be cautious that you don't stay there forever. The more you read, the more you want to read, the more you learn. The more you want to learn, the more you know, the more you know, and your relationship with Jesus will get stronger and stronger, and your relationship with other Christians will also get stronger. It's an all-win for you to know who our Lord and Savior is, to know what he has to say and to learn how that affects you. I encourage you today keep reading your Bible, understand what you can eat, whatever meat and potatoes you can eat, and continue to increase your appetite. I'm telling you, god will bless you with the dessert.
