Conversations with God: The Cross Explained
Hello and welcome to Walk the Walk. Today's podcast is titled God, what Did the Cross Really Do? So welcome back Today. I want to have a conversation with God about why Jesus had to die on the cross. So we say Jesus died for our sins? What does that really, really even mean? I'm going to give you a personal conversation between me and God. God, can I ask you something real? Always, child, I heard the story all my life that Jesus died on the cross for me, but sometimes I don't know how to explain it. What exactly did the cross do for me and for all of us? That cross changed everything Before it.
Speaker 1:Sin separated you from me. No matter how hard you tried, you couldn't fix it. The cost of sin was death, not just physical death, but spiritual separation from me, and I couldn't leave it that way. So Jesus had to die. That was the only way. Yes, but not because I wanted him to suffer. He chose it, he chose you. Love made him stretch out his arms. Love held him there. Not the nails, wow. But it was so brutal, god, why the beatings, the thorns, the shame? Because sin is brutal and Jesus took all of it Every lie, every betrayal, every addiction, every regret. He carried the full weight of it on his back so you would not have to. And when he said it is finished he meant that the debt was paid in full. So that means I don't have to earn it and I don't have to be good enough to be loved by you. No, that's the whole point, tina. You never could earn it, but I loved you anyway.
Speaker 1:The cross tore the curtain, broke the barrier and opened the door. Now nothing stands between us except the lies you still believe. I feel like I still need to do something more, prove something, make up for my past. My child, stop trying to pay for what I've already paid for. I didn't die so you could feel guilty. I died so you could be free, forgiven, redeemed mine.
Speaker 1:God, how can we ever thank you so much for loving that much? You love us unconditionally, kind of like. I know this sounds crazy, but how I love my dogs, like if they pee or poop on the floor, you know I may be angry for that moment, but then when I clean it up, I forget all about what they did. That's kind of how you are with us. I just know that you love us so much. I always have, I always will. The cross wasn't the end of the story, it was the beginning of your new life. You know everybody. I don't know how you feel about that, but Jesus didn't just die for us, he died instead of us and because he did, we get to live free Not perfect, not polished, but forgiven, loved and walking in grace. So if you've been trying to earn it, lay that down today, just receive it, walk in it and remember it's finished. Thank you for joining me today on Walk the Walk and until we meet next time, keep walking.
